ELRS SETUP

Binding ELRS to Your Radio

Get your receiver bound in under a minute with the power cycle method or the ELRS Lua script.

Why Binding Matters

Why Binding Matters

ExpressLRS is the most popular open-source RC link system for FPV — reliable, fast, and long range. Before you can fly, your receiver and radio need to be paired. Binding links the receiver to your specific transmitter so only your radio controls your quad.

What You Need

Confirm you have these before starting the bind process.

ELRS Receiver

Any ExpressLRS receiver installed and wired to your flight controller — BetaFPV, RadioMaster, Radioking, or similar.

EdgeTX or OpenTX Radio

A radio with a built-in ELRS module (RadioMaster Boxer, Zorro, TX16S with ELRS module) running EdgeTX or OpenTX.

ELRS Lua Script (Optional)

The ExpressLRS Lua configuration script on your radio SD card — available free from the ELRS GitHub releases page.

Matching Firmware Version

Your receiver and transmitter module must run the same ELRS firmware version. Mismatched versions will not bind.

Method 1

Method 1: Power Cycle to Bind Mode

The fastest way to enter bind mode — no scripts or tools required. Works on almost every ELRS receiver.

01

Power On Your Receiver

Connect your battery or power your quad normally. Wait for the receiver LED to show a solid or slow-blinking light indicating it is looking for a signal.

02

Power Cycle Three Times

Disconnect power, wait one second, reconnect. Repeat this three times in a row. On the third power-up the receiver enters bind mode — the LED will flash rapidly.

03

Open Your Radio Model Settings

On your radio, navigate to the model configuration for this quad. Go to the Internal or External RF settings page depending on where your ELRS module is.

04

Select Bind

With the receiver flashing in bind mode and your radio on the RF page, select Bind. The radio sends a bind packet and the receiver LED goes solid — binding is complete.

Method 2

Method 2: ELRS Lua Script

The Lua script gives you full control over your ELRS link — including binding, packet rate, power output, and telemetry settings all from the radio menu.

01

Load the Lua Script

Copy the ExpressLRS.lua script to the SCRIPTS/TOOLS folder on your radio SD card. On EdgeTX, access it via System > Tools.

02

Open the ELRS Script

Launch the ExpressLRS Lua script from your radio tools menu. It connects to your ELRS module and displays the current link configuration.

03

Navigate to Bind

Scroll to the Bind option in the Lua script menu and select it. Your transmitter module enters bind mode and broadcasts a bind packet.

04

Power Cycle Your Receiver

With the transmitter in bind mode via the script, power cycle your receiver once. It picks up the bind packet and the LED goes solid confirming a successful link.

ELRS Binding Tips

  • Both your receiver and TX module must be on the same ELRS firmware version — a version mismatch is the most common reason binding fails.
  • The three power cycle method works even without the Lua script — it is the fastest way to bind any ELRS receiver in the field.
  • After binding, verify the link by checking for a solid LED on the receiver and confirming stick inputs register in Betaflight configurator.
  • If binding fails after three power cycles, timing matters — use a deliberate one-second pause between each cycle rather than rapid toggling.
